Spring: A Journal of Archetype and Culture and Spring Journal Books

Manuscript Submission Guidelines

Spring Journal publishes books in the fields of archetypal psychology, mythology, and Jungian psychology under the imprint of Spring Journal Books.

If you would like Spring Journal to consider your manuscript for publication, please send us the following:

  1. Prospectus describing the scope, length, and audience for the book
  2. Separate one page abstract of the text
  3. Table of Contents
  4. Detailed chapter-by-chapter outline
  5. Introduction or Preface
  6. One to two sample chapters
  7. Indicate if there is to be art (illustrations, photographs, etc.) and describe its nature and number.
  8. Resume or Curriculum Vitae, including your complete contact information

If you plan to include chapters or parts of chapters previously published elsewhere (i.e., in another book, a journal, or in electronic format), you must be able to secure rights in all languages, editions, and formats (including electronic formats), or the chapters must be revised extensively enough to be considered a new work. Chapters restricted by another publisher's copyright cannot be considered for publication. (Note: This does not apply to "fair use" quotations.)

Manuscripts and General Suggestions:

All manuscripts must be typewritten, double-spaced, on one side only of good quality, white 8 1/2" x 11" paper, unbound, with one-inch margins on all sides and numbered consecutively; hand numbering is acceptable.

For correct punctuation, capitalization, organization of material, usage and the like, please follow the Chicago Manual of Style, 16th edition (University of Chicago Press, 2003). For more particulars, please also refer to the Spring Style Sheet.

Spring Journal Books does not accept dissertations per se because the requirements for an academic dissertation are generally quite different from those of a book. Those wishing to rework their dissertation into a publishable manuscript are referred to From Dissertation to Book by William Germano, ISBN No: 0-226-28846-3 and to The Thesis and the Book, edited by Harman and Montagnes (University of Toronto Press, 2000).
